Preparing for your Metabolic Test

Important instructions for your appointment

You have been sent a pre-test questionnaire. Please allow 15-30 minutes to fill this in prior to your consultation. If you are unable to complete this online, please let our receptionist know before the day of your appointment, and arrive 30 minutes early to your appointment to complete a paper copy.

Pre-test Instructions

In order for you to get the most out of your Habits for Health visits please remember to follow the pre-test instructions listed below each time you come in for metabolic testing:

Do

  • Bring along any other relevant bloods, investigations and medication lists if not able to load into the pre-test Questionnaire.

  • Take all prescribed medications as per normal.

  • Have a glass of water in the morning before your appointment (if an early appointment).

  • Wear comfortable, casual clothing and bring a drink bottle.

  • Leave any distractions at home (mobile phones, children) as we need you to be as relaxed as possible during your test.

  • Void bladder before the appointment.

  • Allow 1.5 hours for your initial visit

    • If you are unable to complete the forms beforehand, please let us know and arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to fill in at the clinic

  • (For women): note your position in your menstrual cycle​

  • If you are unwell please contact the centre to re-book your appointment

Don’t:

  • Consume any foods or fluids (except water) for a minimum of 4 hours prior to your appointment (It is recommended that you do not fast for longer than 12 hours. If on insulin adjust accordingly).

  • Consume alcohol for 12 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Exercise for 12 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Consume any take away foods in the day before your appointment.

  • Have any stimulants (caffeine, cigarettes) for 12 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Bath/Shower in hot water for 4 hours prior to your appointment.

Please do not attend if you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms. Please ensure you wear a mask to your appointment.
